Deut 18:9-13 “When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults with the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord”

1 Cor 10:20-21 “I say the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink of the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in the Lord’s table and the table of demons.”

Gal 4:8-1 “Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God – or rather are known by God – how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.”

Romans 13:12a “Let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light!”

I recently shared with Steven a note our 10 year-old daughter had typed titled: “Why I don’t Celebrate Halloween” I’d love to share her insights with the E4L and Christ’s Church Chicago families.

Selah (whose name means think on these, or meditate) wrote:
” I don’t celebrate Halloween because I’m a Christian. My mom says that it’s Satan’s day also known as his birthday. (Note: we’re not sure where she got the birthday reference). If you don’t know who Satan is or what he did I am going to be the person to tell you. Satan is bad, and he lies, steals, kills, and destroys your soul.
There is a God, He is King of kings. He made the world. He made you and me. He’s amazing, so powerful than you could ever imagine, did you know God sent His only Son to earth so that He could die on the cross for us to save us from our sins and that is why I don’t celebrate Halloween.”

The babies get it. Let’s not cause them to stumble!

I read a post on Christian Mommies site and I wanted share these thoughts, adding my ditto and state some of the reasons our daughters don’t celebrate Halloween.

We just say ‘no’ to Halloween because:

We don’t want them to underestimate the devil
We don’t want them to open up to demonic influence
We  don’t want them to stumble into an area of the occult unaware
We  want them to know that we take the Bible literally
We want them to prefer the light of the Gospel to the darkness of the occult
We want them to know that it is OK to stand apart from the world on these issues
We want them to recognize easily what is evil and stand against it in the name of Jesus
